HR Benchmarking

Employment trends

Research by the CBI and Harvey Nash shows that the number of employers operating a recruitment freeze has dropped from 61% in their Spring survey to its present 37%.

Ideal managers

Engaging managers are made, not born, as they learn from their own and others’ mistakes and modify their behaviours accordingly, claims The Engaging Manager from the Institute for Employment Studies. The report paints a picture of the ideal manager, and builds on previous IES research that proved the critical role line managers have in employee engagement. The research focused on behaviours, as these can be learnt and unlearnt, and provides HR with useful information to help create the right environment for managers to do this.

Employer loyalty goes a long way

One in three (33%) UK employees say they have not felt valued by their employer during the recession and would leave for another job if they could, found a poll of around 950 workers commissioned by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC).
