Summary
- November 2011 saw a range of reforms proposed covering the following areas: increasing the qualifying service needed to claim unfair dismissal, consulting on the scope of TUPE, looking at whether the collective redundancy consultation periods can be reduced, exempting micro-businesses from unfair dismissal law, CRB checks, reviewing the regulatory regime for the recruitment sector, and a minor change to the law on whistleblowing.
- At the same time as these proposals were published, the government also proposed various changes to the workings of the employment tribunal system.
- With the exception of changing the qualifying period for unfair dismissal, the rest of these proposals rely on further consultations yet to be published.
- All of the above are summarised and commented on below.
