In an early Christmas present for UK employers, EU employment minsters have rejected the European Parliament’s proposals to extend maternity leave. At their December meeting the ministers agreed that the Parliament’s position on the extension of maternity leave to 20 weeks is not conceivable under present circumstances because of the cost implications.
