Overview
A contract of employment was terminated when pay in lieu of notice (PILON) was transferred into the employee bank account, even though the employee was unaware at the time that this had happened. The unambiguous wording of the PILON clause in the employee’s contract left no room for doubt and did not require amplification by reading into it a requirement for notice on the part of the employer.
